Each module lasts for 2  to 3 weeks. The modules are designed to enable students to move between tiers as required. Using and applying activities and ICT are used throughout the course to develop mathematical thinking. Mental and pencil and paper calculations are practised throughout the course. Presentation and communication of the work done is important. Rulers and pencils should be used for all tables and diagrams.

Assessment Procedures

Each half term, a test covenng the modules completed is taken. Both teachers and students record all module test scores. All tiers with the exception of year 10 foundation follow the Edexcel GCSE syllabus. Students are required to take two final examination papers (80%) one of which is a non-calculator paper and submit two pieces of coursework for MAI assessment (20%). Year 10 foundation follow the Graduated Assessment GCSE - Assessment consists of 3 papers taken throughout the course (30%); one terminal paper (50%); two pieces of coursework (20%).

Homework

All year 10 and 11 students are set two homeworks per fortnight. Each homework should take approximately one hour to complete. Homeworks will be; a set of problems, an investigative task, revision or a piece of research.

Marking Policy

All work is marked in line with the whole school marking policy.

Text Books

The main texts used are GCSE Maths - Barbara and Derek Ball and published by Nelson. Excel, Omnigraph, Logo and other software will be used throughout the course. A list of useful Internet sites is available from the Mathematics Department.

Equipment

A scientific calculator, compasses, protractor, set squares and ruler are required. (A calculator can

be purchased from the Mathematics department for £5).
